Connecting through music at our winter singalong

Manawatu Overtones performing at Neighbourhood Support's winter singalong

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.”

So said Plato, and here at Neighbourhood Support Manawatū, we agree! Connecting through music is a great way to build strong communities, which is why we have a music & movement programme that brings people together for dance-fit classes and singalongs.

Our most recent singalong was on 22 July at the Senior Hub, and it was a joyous afternoon filled with song, dancing and toe-tapping. We had a record number of guests (more than 90!) which meant there wasn’t a spare seat in the house, and the team had to scramble to find extra seating as people kept pouring through the doors. It was so heart-warming for us to welcome so many from our community, and to see so many people on their feet dancing.

We were extremely lucky to have a special guest performance from the Manawatū Overtones, who serenaded us with beautiful acapella harmonies. Thank you Sylvia and your team for giving up your time to join us, we hope to have you back another time!

We were also happy to welcome back our local Police team band, Hot Fuzz. They really know how to show us a good time, and this was no exception.

This singalong was organised in collaboration with Senior Hub. Big thanks to Sandy and her team for allowing us to use their premises and for all their help setting up, preparing food, and welcoming our guests. Thanks also to those who volunteered to helped on the day, and to Bunnings for donating spot prizes for us to give away.

Our next singalong is coming up on 2 December with a Christmas theme! Keep an eye on our Facebook page or Eventfinda for more details.
